21/12 - TEACHING TO YOUNG LEARNERS & LAST DAY

Imagen
In the last sesson, we proceeded with the two presentations of "teaching to young english" that were pending. The first one was chapter 9 "reading and telling stories" ,  in which they designed three activities where the children developed reading skills as well as speaking and listening skills. The three activities consisted of storytelling adapted to each cycle; these activities make learning more enjoyable. The last one was chapter 10 "festivals" , in which they developed three activities related to the Christmas festival. The activity for the first cycle consisted of singing various Christmas songs accompanied by the teacher and his guitar. The activity for the second cycle was a gymkhana, and the activity for the third cycle was a Christmas card for a classmate. All the activities were adapted for all grades and were very fun to thus conclude our last class. Apart from having learned English language teaching in this course, I have met new classmates...

20/12 - TEACHING TO YOUNG LEARNERS

Hello! In this lesson, we continued with the classmates' presentations on " Teaching to Young Learners ." Regarding Chapter 6, "Reading in English" , our classmates presented three activities. For the first cycle, there was a reading involving school materials, and students had to clap according to the syllables of selected words from the material. For the second cycle, they had to organize a story titled "The Dentist and the Crocodile." As for the third cycle, we had to match the texts with a title. As for areas for improvement, I believe all three activities were too challenging for the targeted cycle. Additionally, I would recommend using larger font sizes for the texts. In Chapter 7, "Story Activities" , our classmates' activities were perfectly tailored to each cycle. For the first cycle, they created an activity with three images, and we had to create a story. In the second cycle, there was an activity based on watching a video and ...

13/12 - TEACHING TO YOUNG LEARNERS

Hi! In this class, we started with presentations on topics related to "Teaching to Young Learners." The first presentation was on "Teaching Young Learners", in which our classmates conducted activities such as a dance with the Doraemon song, a Shinchan comic, and finally, a Kahoot about the comic. Regarding "Listen and Do" , classmates engaged in activities where, as the title suggests, students had to listen to perform various tasks. They described an image so that their partners could draw it following their instructions, played a charades game, and participated in a twister game. Through these activities, students are learning in a meaningful way. In the "Listen and Make" presentation, our classmates conducted activities related to origami, providing instructions that the rest of us had to follow. These activities involved individual work, which is beneficial, but they were somewhat challenging for the children, as they seemed difficult eve...

30/11 - TOOLS FOR CREATIVE TEACHERS

Imagen
Hi! In this class we continue with more technological resources. One of them is podcasts since they are a very good resource because they allow students to obtain information in an entertaining way and also improve their capacity for critical thinking and analysis. On the other hand, other tools are audicity (application to record voice), and the YouTube to mp3 converter, learning apps and educaplay (I already knew these last two applications but we still did activities to practice) And finally, another tools for flipped classroom are screencasify and loom. In this session I have learned to use many applications that I did not know and I found them very practical and useful to use in class and learn content.

29/11 - ICT in Foreign Language Teaching

Imagen
Hello! This class was focused on ICT (“information and communication technologies”). Technologies have many benefits such as they give you real information, you can carry out your own process and you can also explore creativity. However, it also has disadvantages, for instance, in some cases it is dangerous for children or they may become aggressive and competitive. Therefore, technology is not the objective, but rather we have to create many creative things so that we have many materials for children. Furthermore, the use of ICT in teaching and learning can be approached in three ways: learning about ICT (where teachers and children develop skills and knowledge about the potential uses of ICT to support learning), learning with ICT ((teachers and children use ICT resources to support the classroom curriculum) and learning through ICT (teachers and children use ICT to transform the teaching and learning process, learning in new ways) Finally, we were looking at different applicatio...

23/11 - EVALUATION BY COMPETENCIES

Imagen
Hi! In this class we start with a kahoot related to the contents that we gave the previous day of evaluation and assessment. I was on the podium! This was very useful since it made me realize the things that I had understood better in the previous class and where I should focus more on myself for the exam. In addition, we reflect in pairs on whether the tasks include punishment or not, which I believe is a reinforcement that serves the child well to consolidate what they have learned.  We also talked about the importance of evaluation by competencies since it allows us to emphasize employee development and create a training system that allows them to improve. To practice it, in pairs, we create a rubric to evaluate the activity we did in the last session. Finally, since Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 23rd of November, we did a kahoot to see how much we knew about this holiday and I have to say that I thought I would know less!

16/11 - SUMMATIVE APPROACH

Imagen
Hi! In this class, we continue with the concept of assessment . As we have already seen, assessment is more than testing, and it means different things in different contexts, carried out for different purposes. Futhermore, summative evaluation is defined by OECD as "a study conducted at the end of an intervention (or a phase of that intervention) to determine the extent to which anticipated outcomes were produced. Summative evaluation is intended to provide information about the worth of the program." Some teachers use a variety of ways to assess learning, such as tick sheets to summarize a child’s achievements at a point in schooling and portfolios, which are a useful way of keeping evidence of learning. Also, a portfolio review can be given to families to provide them with information. Additionally, we discussed a term that I did not know how to differentiate, which is evaluation and qualification . While evaluation provides evidence of the student's learning, qualific...
